Tourism Malaysia Unveils Nations’s Biggest Photo and Video Contest

KUALA LUMPUR, MAY 22 — A nationwide call to photographers and content creators has been made with the launch of Malaysia Photo Hunt 2025, a photo and video competition aimed at creatively promoting Malaysia’s tourism attractions ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) through Tourism Malaysia, the competition runs from 1 June to 31 August 2025, and is open to all Malaysians, residents, and international visitors.

“Malaysia Photo Hunt 2025 is a high-impact initiative designed to creatively strengthen tourism promotion. With the slogan ‘Malaysia Welcomes the World’, the programme invites both domestic and international travellers to showcase Malaysia’s beauty through their own lenses on social media,” said Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan during the launch.

Participants may use any brand of camera or smartphone to capture visuals of local destinations. To qualify, each entry must include a photo or video along with proof of travel dated between 1 January and 31 August 2025. This may include receipts for accommodation at licensed premises, attraction tickets, or domestic transport bookings.

In a strong show of industry collaboration, Canon, Sony, Samsung, OPPO and Huawei are onboard as strategic partners. Perodua is also sponsoring 10 vehicles for an influencer Familiarisation Trip scheduled from 13 to 15 June 2025.

Participants using the five partner brands may submit under dedicated categories, while entries from other brands fall under the Tourism Malaysia category.

The contest offers prizes for first, second, and third place, along with 20 consolation prizes in each category. In total, RM400,000 in prize value is on offer, including four grand prizes ranging from RM15,000 to RM35,000 across smartphone and camera categories.

The initiative is also backed by key tourism stakeholders including the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Penang Global Tourism, Sarawak Tourism Board and Sabah Tourism Board, as well as travel associations MATTA, BUMITRA, MAH, MAHO, MyBHA and MITA.

Entries can be submitted online at www.mphunt.tourism.gov.my beginning 1 June 2025. The first 2,000 submissions will receive exclusive mystery gifts from Tourism Malaysia.

Winners will be announced in October 2025, followed by a special exhibition to showcase selected works as part of the build-up to VM2026.
